Friends of Mount Carleton Park Inc  Accomplishments for 2011:

Membership: Increased Friends Membership by 30% over the past year

Stewardship: Provided written and verbal input at stakeholder meetings towards the development of the Mount Carleton Master Plan

Advocacy: Significant advocacy efforts were made in the following areas:  (1) development of revised provincial Parks Act legislation; (2) implementation of a Mount Carleton Park Archeological Study; and (3) awareness of environmental issue related to Loon Population vs. Motorized Vehicles.

Park Activities: (1) Hosted a reception for Charles McNair (a walker of the Appalachian Trail raising funds for the Mark Gallagher Vocational School in Haiti.) - Present at this reception was Hon. Graydon Nicholas. (2) Parks Day barbecue and activities at the Park; (3) Dark Skies event at the Park; (4) Hosted a presentation by David Rand, a representative from the International Appalachian Trail Association; (5) Held two Membership Meetings at the Park

Interpretive Programming: Donated $300.00 towards Interpretive Programming at the Park

Fundraising: Printed Post Cards of picturesque pictures of Mount Carleton Park (currently on sale at Park Store); and sold Lottery Tickets.

Committee Members: Actively involved in the Provincial Crown Lands Action Group Steering Committee; and the New Brunswick Environmental Network.

Historical: Gathered and Photocopied historial photographs of the Park

Promotional: Wrote and Published numerous newspaper articles and photographs

July 2009: Developed Official Logo

November 2009: Achieved Charitable Status. Can now issue income tax receipts for monetary donations.

2008/2009: Participated in the following Park Activities:

  • Biodiversity Day
  • Interpretive Hikes
  • Fiddles on Sagamook
  • Aboriginal Day
  • Dark Skies

Seven news items and promotional stories were published in New Brunswick newspapers and held interviews with Radio Canada, relating to Mount Carleton Park.The Friends at Work

Ongoing compilation of history of Mount Carleton through personal interviews and document research.

Met with officials of Department of Tourism and Parks on numerous occasions in relation to advocacy efforts on behalf of our members.

February 2009: Developed Constitution and bylaws

November 2008: Became an incorporated, non-profit organization

October 2008: Held Annual General Meeting

April 2008: Received funding from Peoples and Park to educate students in biodiversity.

July 2007: Held 1st Annual General Meeting
